TUCSON OPEN DATE DIFFERENT IN '92

The Tucson Open, normally one of the first PGA tournaments each year, has been scheduled later and will be played over a different course in 1992.

The sponsor, Northern Telcom, and the service organization handling the competition, the Tucson Conquistadores, said next year's tournament will be played Feb. 13-167.

It also will be moved to the Tucson National Golf and Conference Resort course, the sponsors said. The Tournament Player's Course at Starpass which has been the tournament's main course will be the secondary course for the first two days.

The date was changed because of televison schedule conflicts, officials said, pointing to the NFL championships, the Winter Olympics, a week's delay in the PGA opening and some western swing PGA Tour events - all affected by the New Year holiday falling on a Wednesday.

Russ Perlich, the 1992 tournament chairman, said the competition will return to its early January scheduling in 1993.
