WIFE IS ACQUITTED IN SLAYING OF HUSBAND

A woman who fatally shot her husband has been acquitted of a murder charge after testimony portrayed her as the victim of brutal beatings.

Delphine Lelia Person, 27, had been charged with first-degree murder after shooting her husband, Aaron five times in the chest and stomach on Oct. 26, 1990. The shooting occurred in the hallway of the couple's apartment.

Wednesday's verdict by Circuit Judge Alan E. Rosenblatt ended a day of testimony during which family members and friends acknowledged that Aaron Person had hit his wife and once pulled patches of hair out of her head.

Testimony showed that when Person came home the night of the shooting, he began arguing with his wife and beating her.
