The top-seeded Tar Heels followed the losses of fourth-seeded UCLA and fifth-seeded Mississippi State in the opening round on Friday with a 101-66 victory over Northeastern.
Second-seeded Syracuse lost on Thursday night to Richmond, leaving North Carolina and third-seeded Oklahoma State as the only survivors among the East's top five seeds.
North Carolina (26-5) faces Villanova on Sunday.
The Tar Heels, who are in their record 17th consecutive NCAA tournament, moved one game closer to extending another tournament record - 10 consecutive trips to the round of 16.
The Atlantic Coast Conference tournament champions didn't waste much time establishing their dominance over 16th-seeded Northeastern (22-11), the regular-season and tournament champions of the North Atlantic Conference.
The Huskies, who had won seven in a row, held their only lead of the game at 10-8. North Carolina took the lead for good with 15:23 left in the first half on a 3-pointer by Hubert Davis, which started a 13-0 run. Rick Fox and Davis each had 16 points for North Carolina, which had 13 players score.
