EASTERN STATE DIRECTOR RESIGNS

The director of Eastern State Hospital has resigned in the wake of an announcement that state police will probe alleged wrongdoing by hospital staff.

David C. Pribble presented his resignation Friday after a meeting with King E. Davis, commissioner of the state Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services.

Davis said the two discussed the abuses alleged by a hospital aide and the firings to four hospital employes for disciplinary reasons. Davis said he did not try to dissuade Pribble from resigning.
