ROANOKE SWIMMERS PLACE IN NORFOLK

Members of the Roanoke Valley Gators and Carter Center Marlins competed Saturday in the second of three days of competition at the Virginia Age Group Junior Olympic Swim Meet at Old Dominion University.

Marlins swimmer Lissa Wood, competing in the 11-12 age group, placed third in the 50-meter butterfly and seventh in the 50 breast stroke. In the butterfly event, Wood qualified to represent Virginia at the Eastern Zone competition in Buffalo, N.Y., on April 6-8.

For the Gators, Brian Marsh set a team record while placing second in the 100 breast stroke in the 13-14 age group. He also finished third in the 100 butterfly and fifth in the 400 individual medley.

In boys' 10-under, Jonas Baranauskas finished eighth in the 50 butterfly, as well as the 50 breast stroke. Ian Ostlund, swimming in the 11-12 division, placed fifth in the 200 individual medley and seventh in the 50 breast stroke.

Molly Henderson swam to an eighth place finish in the girls' 10-under 200 individual medley, and joined Emily Whichard, Lindsay Maze and Emily Mullet on a 200 individual medley relay team which placed seventh.
