Ralph Edward Markle of Salem, born August 9, 1916, went on to be with the Lord on March 17, 1991. He was president of the Isaac Walton League of Montgomery County and a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of the Moose. He was an active member of the West Salem Baptist Church. He was retired from the Norfolk & Western Railway Company. He was preceded in death by his father, Brown Markle, his mother, Clara Roop Markle, and a brother, Curtis Markle. He is survived by his wife, Vera H. Markle; a daughter, Betty Holbrook, Salem; a daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Reginald Altizer, Christiansburg; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Carol Markle, Fincastle; (step)mother, Cynthia Markle, Roanoke; three brothers, Herbert Markle, Newington; Robert Markle, Franconia; Charles Markle, Moneta; one sister, Elizabeth Kish, Roanoke; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 19, 1991, at 2:00 p.m. at Lotz Salem Chapel with the Rev. Michael L. Slaughter officiating. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the Lotz Salem Chapel from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday.
