W&L WHIPS HAVERFORD IN LACROSSE

Washington and Lee (4-1), off to its best start since 1987, demolished Haverford College (2-4) 24-2 in men's lacrosse Sunday.

The Fords (2-4) never had a chance as the Generals (4-1) led 14-0 before Haverford got a goal. Jeff Roberts scored four of the General's first eight goals in the run, and goalie Tom Costello, who only played in the first half, didn't allow a goal.

Rhett Hancock socred five goals, all in the fourth period, and Clark Wight added three goals and three assists.

The last time Washington and Lee started this good, the Generals wound up in the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament.
