`ANATOMY' AUTHOR JOHN VOELKER DIES

John D. Voelker, the Michigan jurist who wrote "Anatomy of a Murder" and other books under the name Robert Traver, died Monday. He was 87.

Voelker was driving his car near his Marquette County home when he apparently suffered a heart attack, state police said.

Voelker was a retired Michigan Supreme Court justice who wrote 11 books. The name Traver was his mother's maiden name.

"Anatomy of a Murder," which was made into a movie filmed in the Upper Peninsula and starred Jimmy Stewart, George C. Scott and Lee Remick, was based on a 1952 murder.
