SUPPORT `TROOPS' IN CRIME WAR

WE ALL wore yellow ribbons to show support for our troops in the Persian Gulf conflict. That's as it should be. Ask any Vietnam veteran.

But let's not forget that we have "troops" right here at home. I'm speaking of our police officers, who lay their lives on the line daily, fighting the war on street crime in an effort to make our lives safer and more enjoyable. All our "troops" need to know that we appreciate and support them. VIRGINIA A. SMITH SALEM
