Jackson Monroe Vernon, age 83, of Roanoke passed away Monday evening at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mr. Vernon was a retired cake superintendent with American (Merita) Bakeries Company with 41 years service. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Roanoke and the Lakeland Masonic Lodge #190 AF & AM. Surviving are his wife, Etta Mae S. Vernon; daughter and son-in-law, Ruby V. and Paul M. Howell, and grandson, Paul Vernon Howell, all of Roanoke; two sisters, Maude V. Duncan of Winston-Salem, N.C.; Rosa V. Shaffer of Madison, N.C.. Funeral services will be at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel 12:00 noon Thursday with Dr. C. Steven Teague and Dr. Harry Y. Gamble officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Burial Park and Masonic Rites will be by the Lakeland Masonic Lodge #190 AF & AM. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
