LYNCHBURG - Gladys Herndon Thomas, age 83, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, March 19, 1991 in Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the widow of Robert Irvin Thomas. She was born November 15, 1907 in Campbell County the daughter of the late Merton James Herndon and Minnie Layne Herndon. She was a retired teacher, Lynchburg City Public Schools. She was a member of Rivermont Presbyterian Church. She is survived by one son, Robert Irvin Thomas, Jr., Roanoke; one daughter, Rebecca Thomas Chesnick, Virginia Beach; one sister, Irene Hernon Balla, Lynchburg; one brother, James Merton Herndon, Jr., Rustburg and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be at the graveside, Concord Cemetery, Wednesday, March 20, 1991 at 1:00 p.m. with James Douglas Franklin. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Diuguid Rivermont Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
