SEND US YOUR OLD RECIPES

Every now and then, it still hits us.

Maybe it's been a tough day at work. Or a gray, rainy day outside.

Maybe you're sick and tired of aerobics for lunch and low-fat, low-calorie, low- taste cuisine for supper.

Remember sausage gravy on biscuits with home fries?

Remember butter, Crisco, beans in fatback and meat loaf?

Remember alfredo sauce with real cream and country ham with red-eye gravy?

They were B.C.

Before Cholesterol.

In honor of the old days, in honor of those weak moments we all have when the only thing that makes life worth living is a plate full of pot pie and mashed potatoes, we bring you: Retro Food.

But we need your help.

Send us a few of your favorite old recipes. If it called for frying - not fussing with the broiler - all the better. If you got it from your mom or somebody special to you, better still.

Tell us if you still make it, and if you don't, why. Please include your name and a daytime telephone number to:\ Retro Food, Features Department, Roanoke Times & World-News, P.O. Box 2491, Roanoke, Va. 24010. The deadline for sending us recipies or letters is 5 p.m., April 5.

We'll compile as many as we can in an upcoming food feature on favorite foods that make us fat.
