AMP MAY NOT EXPAND ROANOKE WORK FORCE

AMP, Inc. of Harrisburg, Pa., has not decided to expand the work force of 300 at its Roanoke County electronic connection plant if the employees of a plant that is closing in Weyers Cave do not choose to transfer, said company spokesman Don Miller.

"We're still developing those openings," he said. "The idea is to offer some relief" for the employees at Weyers Cave, Miller said.

Fifty additional jobs at the Roanoke County plant will be offered to employees of the Weyers Cave plant, which is closing on May 24. AMP is "looking for modest growth" and a break in the recession by mid-year, Miller said. - Staff report
