AEP SHAREHOLDERS TO GO TO LYNCHBURG

American Electric Power Co., parent of Appalachian Power Co., has announced plans to hold its annual stockholders meeting in Lynchburg's Radisson Hotel on April 24.

W.S. White Jr., retiring chairman of AEP, was district and division manager of Apco in Lynchburg from 1962 to 1966.

AEP officials will review the performance of the utility holding company. Stockholders will vote on a proposal from two Roman Catholic groups asking AEP to prepare a report responding to 10 environmental principles.

AEP has recommended that stockholders vote against the measures, saying their objective is "to minimize environmental impacts apparently irrespective of any cost or energy implications."

The proposal came from the Jesuits of the Maryland Province in Baltimore and Catholic Healthcare West of San Francisco. - Staff report
