JMU WOMEN FACE TIGERS

The NCAA women's Sweet 16 will begin a two-step to New Orleans tonight with James Madison, the surprise team of the East, facing Clemson in Philadelphia.

In the first game, No. 7 North Carolina State (27-5), the Atlantic Coast Conference champion, meets No. 13 Connecticut (27-4), the Big East winner.

"This is the first time we've gone into a tournament where I feel like if the other teams play their best and we play our best, we still have a chance to come out," said Wolfpack coach Kay Yow.

James Madison's strong performance has come through upsets of Kentucky at home in the first round and at No. 1 Penn State last Saturday.

In 1986, the Duchesses (26-4) upset top-seeded Virginia at Charlottesville to advance to Philadelphia. This team is a lot like that squad, said James Madison coach Sheila Moorman.

The Tigers (21-10) are ranked No. 21.

The four regional finals will be played Saturday and televised on ESPN.
