Conor Clapton fell shortly after 11 a.m. and landed on the roof of a four-story building next door, according to Officer Kim Royster.
The boy's mother, Italian television star Lory Del Santo, and a housekeeper were in the apartment when he fell, Royster said.
It was not known where Eric Clapton was when the accident occurred, but he was examined and released from the emergency room at Lenox Hill Hospital afterward, said hospital spokeswoman Ann Warner.
The housekeeper had just finished cleaning the window pane and had left it open to air out the room when the boy ran past him and fell out the 4-by-6-foot window, according to police.
