PARADE SELECTS EX-AMBASSADOR

Nathaniel Howell, former U.S. ambassador to Kuwait, will be grand marshal of the 36th annual Vinton Dogwood Festival Parade on April 27.

Howell - whose wife, Marjorie Saunders Howell, is from Bedford County - remained in the embassy in Kuwait City in defiance of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein until Iraq released Western hostages in December.
