MAROONS FALL 11-10 IN LACROSSE

Guilford College never led Wednesday until Ken Saums scored with 2:21 remaining in overtime as the Quakers defeated Roanoke College 11-10 in a battle of nationally ranked men's lacrosse teams.

Roanoke (1-3) was assessed 14 penalties for the game, and Guilford (3-2) had a two-man advantage at the time of the winning goal.

Guilford, ranked 16th in Division III, trailed 10-9 before Ken Parker scored his fourth goal of the game with 49 seconds remaining in regulation. Parker also had two assists, and Saums and Dave Brown each had three goals.

Mark DiBenedetto, Bart Zimmerman and Don Treacy each had two goals for 11th-ranked Roanoke, which got 27 saves from senior goalie Steve Mason. see
