NORTHSIDE JUNIOR HAS THREE ON ALL-STAR TEAM

Playoff champion Northside has placed three players - Steve Anderson, Mark Freeland, and Eric Wiley - on the seven-member Roanoke Valley Junior High League All-Star boys basketball team.

Coaches select the team, which also includes Trey Ondrus and Grant Kittelson from season winner Cave Spring, and David Dunstan and Brent Shorter from third-place Hidden Valley. Wiley is the only eighth-grader selected.

Ondrus led the all-stars in scoring with a 21-point average. Anderson averaged 16.5, Wiley 12.2, Freeland 11.7, Shorter 9.5, Kittelson 6.3, and Dunstan 5.7. Ondrus also led in assists with a 6.3 average. Anderson was next at 4.5 while Kittelson averaged 3.4 and Dunstan 3.1.

Kittelson, who stands 6-1 and averaged 11.9, was the rebound leader. Wiley averaged 7.8, Dunstan 6.7, Freeland 5.7, and Anderson 5.1.

The teams were coached by Tracy Poff of Northside, Chris Carr of Cave Spring and Billy Hicks of Hidden Valley.
