ADMINISTRATION AGAINST GUN-WAITING PERIOD

The Bush administration Thursday joined the National Rifle Association in asking lawmakers to reject a proposed national seven-day waiting period for the purchase of handguns.

The Brady bill, named for former White House press secretary James Brady who was seriously wounded nearly 10 years ago during an assassination attempt on President Reagan, received its first hearing Thursday of this session of Congress before a House Judiciary subcommittee. - Cox News Service
