AAU PICKS ROANOKE FOR 1991

The Roanoke City Department of Parks and Recreation, in conjunction with the Inner City Athletic Association, will play host to the 1991 Amateur Athletic Union's 13-and-under Boys Basketball National Championships on July 15-21.

"It's going to be a big event," said Joe Gaither, athletic director for ICAA. "[There will] be some good competition. A lot of people are going to be surprised with the caliber of play from these boys."

Games will be played at the Roanoke Civic Center, Salem High, North Cross, Patrick Henry and the Bast Center at Roanoke College.

Tournament director Don Young said, "Right now we have 65 teams that are 99 percent sure that they are coming. We're hoping to get 75, which would be an AAU record."
