Bath County scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to take an 11-6 lead. Buffalo Gap countered with five runs in the top of the seventh to tie the score at 11-11 with one out.
But the game was then called because of darkness and officially ended at 11-6.
\ SOFTBALL: Stacy Brugh, Belinda Smith and Felessia Orange each had two hits as James River stopped Alleghany 7-5 in the season opener for both teams.
The Mountaineers loaded the bases in the fifth inning and again in the seventh, but Knights pitcher Kara Mundy stopped the threat with a strikeout in the fifth and two in the seventh.
Orange had three RBI to power James River.
Shelly Bowles hit a two-run home run in the first inning, then went on to pitch a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts to lead Franklin County to a 2-1 non-district victory over visiting Heritage.
Bowles, last year's Roanoke Valley District player of the year, is picking up where she left off last year. She has both victories for the unbeaten Eagles (2-0) and hasn't given up an earned run in 14 innings. Kim Mays pitched a three-hitter for Heritage (1-1).
\ BOYS' SOCCER: Jerry Franks scored twice in the first half to erase a two-goal deficit as Christiansburg rallied to a 2-2 tie with Pulaski County in the teams' season opener.
The Cougars went ahead 2-0 on goals by Kirk Jennings and Scottie McNeil. Craig Dobyns assisted on both. Pulaski County goalie Mark Barnes had 24 saves.
