Amanda Williams died when the sports car her father was driving north on Virginia 114 in Fairlawn crossed over the center lane and struck another vehicle about 2:40 p.m.
Trooper D.M. Honaker said it appeared from the absence of skid marks that no attempt had been made to stop the sports car. He estimated it was traveling 35 mph to 55 mph.
The girl's father, George Williams, 32, of High Meadow Road in Blacksburg, was in critical condition Thursday night at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
The driver of the second car, Tina Marie Rowe, 27, of Mathews Lane in Blacksburg, was traveling about 30 mph, Honaker said. She was treated for minor injuries at Radford Community Hospital and released.
Honaker said damage to the Williams car was so extensive it was impossible to determine whether the father and daughter were wearing seat belts. The cause of the accident also was undetermined.
"It may have been due to medical problems," Honaker said. "We know for a fact that he was a diabetic, so that he might have had something to do with it. We don't know what else it could have been."
