MOTHER WON'T FACE CHARGES IN TOT'S DEATH

Prosecutors said Thursday that charges would not be filed against the mother of a 2-year-old Dumfries boy who was found dead after being lost in Prince William Forest Park.

"From the evidence that we've been able to gather, this case shows poor judgment. . . . but it falls short of a criminal case," said Paul Ebert, Prince William County commonwealth's attorney.

The body of Travis Soper was found Tuesday lying face down in a creek at the bottom of a ravine about a mile from his mother's trailer home. He was last seen playing with a group of children in back of the trailer Sunday afternoon.

Ebert said Soper looked for Travis before going to a convenience store Sunday. She apparently assumed the toddler was being looked after by friends.
