VACATION WEATHER INSURED

The old saying goes: Everybody complains about the weather but nobody does anything about it. Now an Atlantic Coast beach resort is doing something.

Visitors staying at Sands Oceanfront Resorts can buy rain insurance. A day of showers means guests can effectively get their money back.

The policies underwritten by Lloyd's of London cost $5 for every $100 of coverage and the maximum guests can collect is $500 per stay. Policies must be purchased 14 days prior to check-in.

Rainfall will be determined by a rain gauge operated by Coastal Carolina College. If at least 0.1 inch of rain an hour is recorded at least four times between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., covered guests receive a refund.
