BLACKWATER TO PERFORM AT BUDDY'S

Having recently opened for such country music greats as Randy Travis, Alabama, Shenandoah and Clint Black, Richmond's premier Southern rock and country blues band, Blackwater, is making a stop in Blacksburg.

The five-member group will play Buddy's on Monday, during the restaurant's new Country Music Night. Entertainment starts at 9:30.

Formed in 1983, Blackwater is unusual in that all five members sing lead in a repertoire that runs from the Kentucky Headhunters, .38 Special and Steve Earle to Creedence, Little Feat and the Eagles to the more traditional sounds of today's popular groups.

Their versatility earned them the East Coast Country Music Championship in 1987 and has kept them busy with club dates throughout Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Delaware.

The group is currently concentrating on the college bar scene.

Blackwater features Jim Clendenen on saxophone, keyboards and flute; Randy Hedstrom and J.R. Sexton on bass and rhythm guitar; H.L. Wilson as lead guitarist; and Mike Johnson on drums.

Call Buddy's at 552-6423 for more information.
