Town Planner Roger Hunt said Irons met with him and a town engineer Wednesday to go over final details of the plan for the two buildings, which will contain 96 bedrooms.
Irons also plans to convert the offices in the historic Thomas-Conner House into residential units with 10 bedrooms.
The town Planning Department had twice disapproved the plan, mostly on technical grounds.
However, two points were raised in the town's review: whether increased traffic would require additional right-of-way along the streets, and whether the apartments would be "in harmony" with surrounding buildings, as stated in the current zoning ordinance.
In response, Irons has submitted a legal brief that says the town, in zoning the property for multifamily development, had already allowed for an increase in traffic, and that the zoning encourages but doesn't require a structure to be "in harmony."
