WYTHE COUNTY CRASH KILLS DRIVER, TEEN-AGER

A 17-year-old Pulaski youth and 30-year-old North Carolina man were killed Thursday night when their car went off U.S. 21 south of Wytheville in Wythe County.

They were identified as Robert Eugene Webb of North Wilkesboro, N.C., the driver, and William B. Shifflett Jr. of Pulaski.

Trooper J.A. Bartlett said the northbound car ran off the right side of the road about 11 p.m., went over an embankment and ran into a tree. Both were dead at the scene.

The traffic deaths are the first this year in Wythe County, although five people have been killed in accidents on that stretch of U.S. 21 in the past nine months.
