ALLEN WINS 5,000 RUN AT UNC TRACK MEET

Virginia Tech's Heidi Allen placed first in the 5,000-meter run and third in the 3,000 run at the Tar Heel Four-Way meet at the University of North Carolina on Saturday.

The host Tar Heels won 22 of 35 events to finish first in both the men's and women's standings. The Tech women placed third and the men finished fourth. Yale and Tennessee were the other schools competing.

For the Hokies' men, Adrian Lawrence placed fourth in the high jump; Mike Sergent finished sixth in the shot put and discus; Jon Patrowicz was third in the javelin; Drew Saunders placed second in the 3,000; and Cedric Patrick finished fifth in the 200. - Staff report
