A: You are referring to the Teletax number, which is (804) 367-8031. Use it for questions about refunds, taxpayer assistance or pre-recorded information.
However, the number is constantly busy this time of year, according to the Department of Taxation's Public Information Office. So a new number, strictly for people inquiring about the status of their refunds will be in operation in about a week. That number will be (804) 367-2274.
Toy, pacifier recalls
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced two recalls being conducted voluntarily by distributors.
They are:
14,000 Toy Soldier Trains, by Chadwick-Miller Inc. of Canton, Mass.
About 2 million pacifier holders, by W.B. Nod & Co. of Atlanta.
The first item consists of a wooden train with 30 soldiers 2\ inches high to be mounted on cars of the train. It came in a brown cardboard box bearing the legend, "Chadwick Set of 30 Wooden Toy Soldiers with train . . . Made in China," and carried model number 96774.
Wooden parts could separate from the toy and choke children, the commission said. However, no injuries have yet been reported.
The pacifier holder is a plastic badge, one inch by two inches, bearing a rainbow design and the name "Pacifier Pal" on one side and a safety pin on the back. It was model number CP-301. The holder had three multicolored ribbons with metal snaps at each end for attaching a pacifier.
The commission said the snaps could come loose and choke children. No injuries have been reported.
Consumers with the toy train should return it to the store or catalog company where it was purchased.
Consumers with the pacifier holder should return it to W.B. Nod & Co., 7000 Peachtree Dunwoody Road, Atlanta, Ga. 30328. The company's toll-free number is (800) 882-8783.
