EAGLE ROCK - Oliver Franklin Reid Sr., age 73, of Eagle Rock, died Saturday in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born November 6, 1917, in Augusta Springs, a son of the late John S. Reid and the late Gertrude Reid. Mr. Reid retired from Hercules, Inc. in 1981 where he served as personnel manager. He served two terms as Mayor of Covington and two terms as Vice-Mayor and was a member of the Clifton Forge Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Anna K. Reid, Eagle Rock; one son, Oliver F. (Butch) Reid Jr., Clifton Forge; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Hunt, Buchanan; Mrs. John (Jo Ellen) Smith, Elizabeth City, N.C.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one stepson, Haden T. Dudley, Goodview; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Ronald (Carlos Ann) Spellman, Blue Ridge; two stepgrandchildren; a brother, Willard Reid, Woodstock; two sisters, Virginia Fitzgerald and Nettie Schuder, both of Salem. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Phillips Reid in 1973. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in Clifton Forge Baptist Church with the Rev. William C. Mattox Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Allegany Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at the Loving Funeral Home in Covington and suggest memorial tributes to the Eagle Rock Rescue Squad.
