RADFORD - Mrs. Helen Hendricks Black, age 79, departed this life Saturday evening, March 23, 1991, at the Radford Community Hospital after a long illness. She was born February 26, 1912, in New River, Va., the daughter of the late Minnis Hendricks and Kate D. Hendricks. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Stewart E. Black, and four children. She was a member of the New Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, Radford, Va. She was a retired employee of the Radford Army Ammunitions Plant. She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, James T. Black, and his devoted wife, Iris Black, of Washington, D.C.; granddaughter, Patricia Palmer, and husband, Odell Palmer, Radford, Va.; her faithful friend, Agnes Clark, Radford, Va.; other grandchildren, Stanley B. Black, Washington, D.C.; Sharon Floyd, Jacksonville, N.C.; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Naomi Cobbs of New River, Va.; two brothers, Minnis Hendricks Jr. and Harry Hendricks, both of Pulaski, Va.; six sisters-in-law, Nonie Stewart, Thelma Wilson, Theolia Feggins, all of Virginia Beach; Loraine Burks, Bristol, Va.; Sally Black, Radford; Julia Black, New River, Va.; three brothers-in-law, Garland Black, Perry Black Jr. and the Rev. Glen Cobbs; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. from the New Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, Radford, Va., with the Rev. Virginia Timmons officiating. Burial will be in Sunrise Burial Park, Fairlawn, Va. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 at the Claytor, Alexander & Penn Funeral Chapel, Radford, Va. Claytor, Alexander & Penn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
