SMITH LEADS IN ROANOKE'S LACROSSE WIN

Junior attackman Brett Smith tied a school record with nine goals Sunday to spark Roanoke College to an overwhelming 24-4 rout of Virginia Wesleyan in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference men's lacrosse game.

Smith tied the Maroons' single-game goal-scoring mark set by Ray Stoghton in 1987. Smith also had three assists to finish with 12 points, one shy of the school record.

Roanoke improved to 1-1 in the ODAC and 2-4 overall. Virginia Wesleyan fell to 0-3 in the league and 1-5 overall.
