CITY MAN STABBED

A 41-year-old man was stabbed three times early Sunday outside a Southwest Roanoke nightspot.

Michael G. Huffman, of the 1000 block of West Campbell Avenue, suffered wounds to the stomach, arm and cheek shortly before 1 a.m.

He was in stable condition at Community Hospital Sunday night.

Witnesses told police that Huffman had left Dell's Bar on Salem Avenue with a man who was causing a disturbance. The man fled the scene with a companion following the stabbing.

Police were told the assailant used a switchblade knife.

Roanoke area police agencies Sunday also reported the following incidents:

An encounter with a knife-wielding bandit left a Southwest Roanoke man without his wallet, watch, sneakers and blue jeans. The robber ran after taking the items from James W. Nelson, 41, of the 200 block of Albemarle Avenue, Roanoke police said.

A bandit took $20 and a pizza from a deliveryman for Domino's Pizza Saturday night. Scott D. Johnson, 28, said he was making a delivery to a Garden City Boulevard Southeast address when he learned it was invalid. A man with a dark hooded sweat shirt and red stocking hat approached Johnson, said he had a gun and fled with the pizza and the money.

A 65-year-old Salem man was robbed of $400 after being beaten on the head and back with a baseball bat Friday night after two men approached him from behind. Lynwood H. Booth of Mossberry Street suffered a head laceration and complained about pain in his rib cage. He was treated and released from Community Hospital.

A Northwest Roanoke man told police he was shot in the arm after he was jumped by a group of men in the 1200 block of Loudon Avenue Northwest. Cleveland M. Brown, 38, could give police no reason for the shooting and attack.

Two people received minor injuries when a glider crashed into an embankment shortly after being towed for takeoff on private property in Botetourt County. The plane crashed about 2:45 p.m. after its pilot, Ronald R. Roberts of Albemarle County, decided that it could not clear some trees. He dropped the tow rope and headed away from the trees before the glider struck the embankment, a state police dispatcher said. The passenger, Robert Zimmerman of Hadley, N.Y., was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in satisfactory condition.
