Master Sgt. George Albright, who ended a 20-year retirement from the Army when the Persian Gulf War began, will have served a month instead of a year when he is discharged next Sunday.
He was the oldest of seven retired Army career men who reported to Fort Eustis earlier this month for service of up to a year. All of them are getting out early because of the war's short duration.
They were to have worked in casualty affairs at Fort Eustis, but there were not enough U.S. casualties for the Army to need them in that capacity. Albright, who has worked as a machinist in Pulaski, was assigned to marine engines instead.
Albright moved to Pulaski with his wife, Barbara, who came from here, after his 1972 retirement and their marriage. He spent 30 years in the active or reserve Army and served in combat in World War II, Korea and Vietnam - but not in the Persian Gulf, although he said he was ready to go.
