TWO HURT SLIGHTLY WHEN GLIDER PLANE CRASHES ON TAKEOFF

Two people received minor injuries when a glider crashed into an embankment shortly after being towed for takeoff on private property in Botetourt County.

The plane crashed about 2:45 p.m. after its pilot, Ronald R. Roberts of Albemarle County, decided it could not clear some trees. He dropped the tow rope and headed away from the trees before the glider struck the embankment, a state police dispatcher said.

The passenger, Robert Zimmerman of Hadley, N.Y., was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in satisfactory condition.
