APPALACHIAN STATE TAKES 2 FROM VMI

Appalachian State shellacked VMI 17-2 in the first game and then held on for a 7-6 winn in the first game for a sweep of the two schools' Southern Conference baseball doubleheader Sunday.

VMI (0-14-1 overall, 0-5 in the conference) used only one pitcher in the first game and Mountaineer Johnny McGraw went 4-for-4 with four runs scored, including a two-run homer.

Johny McAuley had to come in to get the last two outs for Appalachian State (15-8, 4-4) in the seventh inning of the nightcap after the Keydets had scored four runs to get within 7-6. McAuley snuffed out the Keydet rally to register his third save. Billy Terry went 3-for-4 for the Keydets in the second game.
