HARRISONBURG - Dr. J. Emmert Ikenberry, age 84, a resident of 310 West View Street in Harrisonburg, died Monday in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. A son of the late John W. Ikenberry and Ida Barnhart Ikenberry, he was born January 30, 1907, in Daleville, Virginia. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Bridgewater College and Ph.D. Degree in Mathematics at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Dr. Ikenberry taught at Bridgewater College and at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania until 1945. In 1945, he moved to Harrisonburg and taught at Madison College. Dr. Ikenberry was a member of the St. Stephen's United Church of Christ and the Harrisonburg Kiwanis Club. On June 4, 1930, he married Kathryn Maxwell who died June 20, 1973. Surviving are two children, Jean Katherine Ikenberry of New York City, N.Y. and Lynn David Ikenberry of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. from St. Stephen's United Church of Christ with the Rev. Robert G. Stainback officiating. Burial will be in Daleville Cemetery in Daleville, Va. His body now rests at Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 Wednesday. Those desiring may made memorial contributions to the J.
