BLUE DEVILS GET FIRST WIN

Grayson County took advantage of two errors to score four runs in the first inning, and Devin Floyd and James Wyatt combined to strike out 13 as the Blue Devils (1-2) picked up their first baseball victory of the season, 6-0 over Alleghany, N.C. (3-1). Grayson scored four runs in the first inning.

In other baseball:

In Martinsville, Bobby Snow was 4-for-4, including a two-run home run and Mark Ivey had two hits and two RBI as Martinsville won a 12-10 Piedmont District slugfest over Tunstall. The Bulldogs (2-0) led 12-6 on Snow's homer in the sixth. Barry Young was 4-for-5 with a homer for Tunstall (0-2).

Dennis Swearengin, Timmy Williams and Scott Carpenter each drove in three runs as Bath County (2-0) ripped Franklin, W.Va. 16-6.

John Erwin hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth and Gretna scored the winning run on a suicide squeeze in the seventh as the Hawks beat Laurel Park 10-9 in a Piedmont District game.

\ SOCCER: Neil Whitaker and Tony Duncan scored as George Wythe (1-0) opened the season with a non-district victory over Marion (0-1).

Jason Lawrence had a hat trick and scored the game-winning goal with about seven minutes left as GW-Danville beat Martinsville 4-3 in a non-district game.
