POLICEMAN PLANS FRANKLIN SHERIFF BID

Town Police Officer Lynn Frith plans to challenge Franklin County Sheriff W.Q. "Quint" Overton in the Democratic primary Sept. 10.

Frith, 41, ran as an independent candidate for sheriff in 1987, placing a distant third in a three-way race.

Frith said he hoped to get more votes this time, but he stopped short of predicting he could unseat Overton, arguably the most formidable politician in Franklin County.

"I think I'll do better," said Frith, a part-time traffic officer. "People know who I am. I've stayed in the newspaper pretty well this year."

Frith - who has been successful in getting his weekly press releases printed in the local newspaper, The Franklin News-Post - perhaps is best known for the Camaro Z28 police cruiser that he persuaded Town Council to buy.
