FRANKLIN OFFICIAL SEVERS 2 FINGERTIPS

Franklin County Commissioner of Revenue Ben Pinckard severed the tips of two fingers on his right hand with a table saw last weekend.

"I just did something careless," Pinckard said Monday in a telephone interview from his room at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Pinckard said he was cutting wood for computer cabinets he was building at his home on Sunday when his right hand got caught in a table saw. The blade severed the tips of his index and ring fingers at the first knuckle.

Pinckard, who is left-handed, said he expected to be released from the hospital Wednesday and should be back at work by next week.
