SOME MAY LOOK HEALTHY BUT AREN'T

THIS IS in response to Ronald E. Windel Sr.'s letter March 14 about handicapped tags.

My parents had handicapped tags on their car. My father had bronchitis, asthma, black lung and a heart condition. He looked the picture of health, but couldn't walk far or fast. My mother had the same things and also looked good, and she couldn't walk far either. My father passed away Jan. 29, my mother Feb. 20.

I respect the people who have these tags and window decals. At least they have the freedom these items give them. Thank God I still have my health and can walk to the store from any place in any parking lot, which these people can't do. I hope Mr. Windel won't ever have to have these tags, and that if he does, no one will begrudge him.

I don't think too many doctors will fill out the paper work just for the fun of it. I thank my parents' doctors for doing it for them, or they would have been stuck at home the last five years. MARLENE WILKERSON ROANOKE
