HOW DID BOUCHER, OLIN VOTE ON ARMS?

THERE WERE two excellent letters March 16 by Lawrence Shield and Willis M. Anderson. Most people in Southwest Virginia are embarrassed that their representatives in Congress voted against supporting the president in the Gulf War.

But we need to investigate further. How did Congressmen Olin and Boucher vote on bills to fund the Patriot missile that saved so many allied lives? What support did they give to research into the Strategic Defense Initiative?

And what about the ability of fire-control officers to target Iraqi tanks by using the trajectory of their incoming fire, and destroying the tanks before they could be seen by allied forces? Were our congressmen smart enough to vote for these smart weapons? KATHY HAYDEN ROANOKE
