BOWMAN, ELBERT G.

Elbert Gleaves "Tuffy" Bowman, age 60, of 1200 West Lee Highway died Monday at his residence. He was the son of the late Maye Campbell Bowman and Elbert G. Bowman, Sr. He was preceded in death by a sister, Natalie Bowman Taylor. He attended VPI, University of Tennessee, Tennessee Wesleyan and Elon College. He was a member of the Wytheville Presbyterian Church and was co-owner of the E.G. Bowman Livestock Purchasing Agency. He was the majority owner of the Wytheville Livestock Market. He is survived by one daughter, Campbell Bowman Dickerson, Hampton, Va.; one grandson, Jeremy lee Dickerson, Hampton, Va.; one sister, Regina B. Manuel, Wytheville; six nieces and nephews, Rick Calhoun, Vinton; Randy Calhoun, Wytheville; Rena C. Moyer, Wytheville; Ben S. Taylor, Jr., Atlanta, Ga.; Jenifer Taylor, Asheville, N.C.; Terri Roberts, Austin, Texas. A graveside service will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the West End Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Dr. Thomas Sproule. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Regina B. Manuel at 750 West Pine St. at any time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wytheville Presbyterian Church Building Fund or to the Wytheville Presbyterian Children's Home. The Grubb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
