FORMER UVA PLAYER W&M WOMEN'S COACH

Trina Thomas, assistant women's basketball coach at William and Mary for the past three years, was elevated to the head coaching position Tuesday.

Thomas succeeds Pat Megel, who resigned at the end of the season after a five-year tenure during which his teams were 38-97.

Thomas is a 1987 graduate of the University of Virginia and former captain of the Cavaliers' women's basketball team. - Associated Press
