TECH'S WUVT CELEBRATING 43 YEARS ON AIR

Virginia Tech's WUVT radio, one of the oldest college radio stations in the nation, is holding its radiothon fund-raiser in conjunction with its birthday celebration this week.

Monday is WUVT's 43rd birthday. The AM station went on the air in 1948 and the FM frequency started in 1969. WUVT broadcasts an eclectic mix, with children's programming, blues, folk, international, dance and new music.

Tech administrators, faculty members and Media Board representatives attended an open house Tuesday as part of the station's week-long celebration.

The station will hold a birthday softball game and barbeque on the Drill Field at 5 p.m. Monday. The public is invited and donations are welcome.

The radiothon, which continues through Sunday, is the station's major fund-raiser for daily operations. Listeners can call in donations to 552-0644 or mail them to WUVT, 100 N. Main St., Blacksburg, Va. 24060.
