WOMAN, 82, FIRES SHOT AT PORTSMOUTH RAPIST

An 82-year-old woman who was being raped pulled a pistol from under her pillow and fired a shot at her attacker, who was arrested minutes later, authorities said.

Henry T. Bynum, 34, of Portsmouth is being held in lieu of $81,000 bond.

After the woman's shot from a .25-caliber handgun missed the attacker and lodged in her bedroom ceiling during Saturday's assault, the man wrestled the gun from her, police said.

Neighbors who heard the commotion called police.

The intruder ran out the back door and was found several blocks away.
