RIGHTS SUIT LINKED TO VA. BEACH RIOT IS SET TO BEGIN

A federal magistrate has refused to dismiss a civil rights lawsuit stemming from an arrest made during the 1989 Labor Day rioting in Virginia Beach.

U.S. Magistrate Tommy Miller ruled Tuesday that the case can go to trial in U.S. District Court Monday. The suit was brought by Melvin Moore, a Hampton man who was arrested and allegedly beaten during the disturbance at the oceanfront.
