The blues singer and songwriter, known for his wit and political insight, is a key element of the New York Lower East Side "anti-folk" scene. He's a veteran of the streets and subways in the U.S. and Europe, having performed from the stage at the Ritz to beneath Times Square for paying audiences and passers-by alike.
You can catch him at The Cellar, 302 N. Main St., tonight beginning around 9.
Manning's music is rooted in "folkgrass" and tells tales of real life. He is accompanied only by his guitar.
His debut album on SST Records propelled him last year out of the subway and onto the road. He has received raves from Rolling Stone and People magazines, as well as the Village Voice and Washington City Paper.
Manning is readying another LP and can be heard weekly on stations across the country as host of "Sonic Hootenanny," featuring live acoustic performances from New York. Call The Cellar at 953-0651 for details.
