DOG-OWNER LOOK-ALIKE CONTEST PLANNED

If you look like your dog, you're in luck. Next month, owners and dogs will be able to compete in a look-alike event and other contests at Virginia Tech's "Stampede and Stroll."

No April Fool.

The "Stampede and Stroll," to be held at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine on April 6, is for serious runners and not-so-serious runners.

It also is for people interested in a competitive dog walk.

Sponsored by the college's classes of 1993 and '94, the event will include a 5-kilometer run at 8 a.m. for people and a one-mile stroll for dogs and their owners at 9:15 a.m.

Dogs must be leashed and have current vaccinations to participate.

Prizes will be awarded in five categories for winners of the road race. Prizes for the dog stroll will be awarded on the basis of placement, smallest dog, largest dog, cutest and slowest.

A special prize will be awarded for the dog and owner most resembling each other.

Prizes of donated by local businesses range from restaurant dinners to shampoos and dips at animal groomers. All prizes will be presented at a brief awards ceremony at 10:30 a.m.

There is a $10 entry fee for each event. All participants will receive T-shirts. Some of the proceeds will be donated to the Wildlife Center of Virginia in Weyers Cave in Augusta County.

Entry forms may be picked up at the main reception desk in the veterinary school's teaching hospital, at the Blacksburg Strider's bulletin board in the War Memorial Gym at Virginia Tech, and at some veterinary clinics.

Participants can register at the event.

For further information or for entry forms, call 552-0472 or 951-3407.
